A practical map of CTD Module 3

By Bhavya Madhavan

Module 3 explains what the product is, how it is made and controlled, and why it should remain suitable throughout its proposed shelf life.

In this guide
  1. Drug substance
  2. Drug product
  3. Keep the story connected
  4. Regional and lifecycle context

Drug substance

Section 3.2.S covers general information, manufacture, characterization, control of the drug substance, reference standards, container closure, and stability.

Drug product

Section 3.2.P covers composition, pharmaceutical development, manufacture, control of excipients and drug product, reference standards, container closure, and stability.

Keep the story connected

Development knowledge should support the control strategy. Process descriptions, specifications, analytical procedures, validation, batch analyses, and stability data should use consistent names, numbers, and justifications.

Regional and lifecycle context

Module 3 is part of a submission, not a universal checklist. Product type, development phase, region, application pathway, and postapproval strategy determine the exact content and level of detail.
